If you want to experience a truly different culture there is no better place to visit than Japan. The culture, politeness of people, food, temples, transportation, shopping and more makes it a rememberable trip. However if its first time there and especially with a family I highly recommend some basic planning to ensure you make the best of your time.. and trust me you will wish you have allocated more time in Japan.
One article is difficult to cover all the different aspects of planning needed so I’ll break it down as much as possible to give you details that are needed.

While my route consisted of going from London ->Tokyo ->Osaka ->London depending where you are travelling from your options might vary.
The reason this route works best is to avoid circling back to Tokyo and avoiding the cost of the train journey which can be expensive. Also you will probably save time and use that to explore more of Japan.
Over the coming weeks I’ll keep adding to the below list but the intent is to follow the below structure.
- Planning and pre-departure prep.
- Landing in Tokyo airport, picking up your sim, travel card and making your way on the train.
- Exploring the sites of Tokyo
- Making your way to Osaka
- Exploring Osaka, Nara, Kyoto
- Things which we skipped but recommended.
